Pregnancy Management
Go to: Post-Natal
Ante-natal
The Bayswater Medical Centre provides care for women throughout the course of their pregnancy. If you think you may be pregnant, you can make an appointment with one of our nursing staff on:
0844 576 9250
to have your pregnancy confirmed and your pregnancy management will be initiated in liaison with the local hospital.
At the initial consultation, the Doctor will explain and answer any questions you may have relating to your pregnancy. We can discuss all the management and requirements of your pregnancy with you in greater detail at this consultation. We will also identify any additional needs you may have.
We also make arrangements with private care for your pregnancy with a consultant of your choice should you prefer to do so.
The Practice has an Antenatal Care Policy for shared care and management of your pregnancy. The written protocol is available upon request or you can access it online.
Referral to your Local Hospital
The Doctor will inform you of our shared care plan, where you are referred to the local hospital for booking, bloods and ultrasonography. You will be given an antenatal pack and other material relating to the pregnancy and the benefits available to you as an expectant mother will also be explained. You may also be given iron tablets and vitamins to be taken during your pregnancy.
In due course, approximately 20 weeks, you will receive an appointment from the Ante-Natal Clinic at a hospital of your choice. At this visit a named midwife will be allocated to you who will explain the shared care protocol and birth plan. You will thereafter receive regular monthly checks at the Bayswater Medical Centre and more frequently nearer the time of delivery.
St Mary's Hospital in Praed Street offer integrated antenatal screening for foetal abnormalities.
Post-natal
After the delivery of your child, you will need to undergo registration at the local town hall. Your child will also be provided with a form to allow him/her to be registered at our practice. Six weeks after delivery, you will need to visit the Bayswater Medical Centre where you will have a full well woman health check, including discussing contraception. Immunisations for your child will commence at eight weeks and ongoing management thereafter.
Please visit the Childhood Immunisation schedule for further details.
