Travel Health Advice
Anyone considering travel for any considerable period of time should also be aware of the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), which is caused by long periods of immobilisation.
Please be advised that stretching your lower limbs and walking around if possible will help reduce this risk. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding coffee and alcohol is advisable on long flights.
The use of flight socks may be advisable, which you can obtain from your local pharmacy. If you already have an existing medical condition or recently had major surgery you may be at an increased risk of developing a DVT.
A tablet of baby aspirin is also recommended subject to approval from your doctor. This is dependent on other medication you are currently taking.
